Harshada lives with her mother and younger brother. Her father passed away 2 years ago during COVID-19. Ever since, her mother has had to leave the kids at home to do domestic work. They live in a very challenging slum community in a 8*10 room without any ventilation or toilet, poor hygiene, rampant violence from neighbours. The unemployed adults in the neighbourhood are constantly in and out of drugs. The house is on the top of a mountain and Harshada has to climb down the mountain to access the public toilet. Her mother has to lock up the children to keep them safe when she goes to work. Harshada doesn’t have any space to play, or make friends or to learn anything new given her environment. Harshada is supported by Ra Foundation in her education locally in Mumbai. She is in Grade 10 at Muktangan-supported, Globe Mill Passage Municipal Secondary School.
