Shareeq is 12 years old, and lives with his younger brother and mother in Ulwe at Navi Mumbai. Shareeq’s mother came to Mumbai from a rural village in Gujarat only after marriage. With her husband deserting their family, Shareeq’s mother had to take the help of her neighbour to relocate to Ulve. She now lives on rent with her two sons. Shareeq’s uncle sometimes sends them about INR 5000 to help them with their basic expenses. Shareeq’s mother is unable to take up jobs in a regular workplace as she has a fear of working among men, and hence is looking for a job arrangement where she can be working amongst other women. The family is not connected to Shareeq’s father who has remarried another woman and settled in Pune. Shareeq’s mother is supported by her elderly parents but their support is not sustainable and consistent. Shareeq is set to join the Happy Kids Program in Grade 7 St. Xavier’s High School, Panchgani.
